Beauty turned UGLY Down Under

Haven't quite recovered from the only punch Henin threw during the finals. After raving and ranting about the quality to expect from the finals, I was mighty disappointed to see her lose the first set 6-1. But at the same time, was quite sure that the inevitable comeback was just around the corner. Even at 0-2 in the second set, I was hopeful...but then came the low blow. And to think that I sacrificed the beautiful blonde for Henin in the semifinal!!!

Peter Bodo minces no words in his assessment of the incident. Not that this comes without a precedent. Henin, with a game that personifies grace as much as her male equivalent Federer, has always had a dark side to her which I never cared to explore in depth. Dug up this article from 2003 that narrates a few of the unsavoury incidents that Henin has been involved in. This one though, makes me feel bad for Serena (yeah!!!) in that 2003 French semi.

I just hope that the WTA finds a way to mete out some punishment that fits the crime, though, not sure how someone can prove that Henin did not have a stomach ache. Maybe, proving that Henin has a 'weak stomach' would do!!!

I dont understand all this fuss over H-H though. It is HER that's out on the court - and if she doesn't feel like playing that's her prerogative.Maybe she had menstrual cramps or just wasn't in it.If they think she's calling for a trainer without just cause, let them change the rules. As long as the rules dont expressly forbid it, Kim Clijsters or anybody else is free to call for the trainer as well.I understand it is not an act of sportsmanship but surely she has every right to stay within the rules. People, especially these idiot journalists who simply watch from the outside should just shut up.What will they do if she does indeed injure herself in the course of that match? Will they play for her or something :-)?

Nicholas Kiefer acts like a little baby and not much is made out of that.Tiger Woods rips up the green with his foot (like the spoiled brat that he is) and again nobody is paying attention.Michael Schumacher pulls the dirtiest of moves to knock his opponents out of contention. I dont think you should be making too much of this either, considering that you actually like Schumy and Woods.

Was actually ready to follow up with one where I spoke about the inevitability of such 'selfish' events when single minded ambitious people are involved in the whole excercise. But you beat me to it. So now, unfortunately, I have to reply to your comment and worse...agree to it. grrrr..

I am not usually bothered by a sportsperson displaying selfishness in an individual sport since I do not look at them as divine saints.

In this case, Mauresmo overcoming her very human frailities after such a long period close to the top was a heart warming story. But a climax (presentation ceremony) of a feel good movie (Mauresmo's career) has never been more lackluster. So, felt a deep sense of hatred for JHH at that point. No big deal. A few backhands should cure the problem :)

In case you thought you got off winner......I am sure that you would be singing a very very different 'Razzaq-kind' tune if it were Sharapova and not Mauresmo at the receiving end, you cheap blonde chasing non-tennis fan!

GO ANNA !!!
